Christmas Time


Christmas time often sees an influx of people running to the pet stores to buy their children or other loved ones a furry bundle of joy for Christmas. It is a beautiful sentiment with so much love going into it, however some of the finer details are often overlooked. As a pet store owner, I am surprised by how many people don't realise they should be buying heartgard for dogs or atleast some form of heartworm medicine.

Buying A Pet

Many people are often too excited at the idea of giving the gift - which is a lovely sentiment. They rush around and add in the lead, the dog bowl, the shiny new collar and perhaps a couple of treats for the dog as well, but when they come up to me to pay they always overlook the health protection. That's why I always offer some form of flea or worm protection like nexgard for dogs.


Grateful

Many parents are often very grateful for my advice and tell me they wish they had known more of this when it came to their decision-making. This is what has encouraged me to start a little side business that I now sell into pet stores. I started off by writing brochures with key information about what you need to look after a dog and how to care for them.

Next Step

My next step was to out together care packages that are given to each and every person who makes an animal purchase for just $5. I have teamed up with some great companies to put these together and gained the advice of vets to write the information. So far, it has gone really well and I can't wait to see more pet stores in Australia take it up. Currently our most sold product is heartguard plus for dogs which is really nice to see that people are taking that extra mile.
